BAJA'S -JERSEY CITY,NEW JERSEY

BAJA'S
JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY
MID AFTERNOON 6.2011

This is a restaurant my older sister took me to as a treat for lunch. I came into the place with an opened mind because not too many places are capable of making actual authentic Mexican style dishes. Sure enough, as we tasted the food, I was correct Was it because we came in the lunchtime hours? As I know, this place is quite known for its happy - hours and dinners. But, it is still a restaurant at all hours. Service and food should not be compromised. Here is my review results for Baja's.

  1. Service - Walking in the door, immediately you will see decor Mexican style, but that's it. This is all the place can show and brag about. Waiters were eating on the host stand. Please don't try to get your waiters attention, that is a task in a half because they don't hang around their table areas.
  2. Food - Enchilada in mole sauce. This dish is more like" Uncle Ben's" bagged rice and frozen veggies. The flavor of enchilada was weak. The one I'm quite familiar with is more meat hearty, juicy, and more spice. Hello!! Where was the kick in my spice??!!
  • Guacamole and tortilla chips- Tasted like leftover avocado from possible happy hour. I don't dare to find out. Not fresh. A real Mexican spot would of made the guacamole right in front of you as you order. that way you know for sure what your getting. Nachos, were cold. Not fresh
  • Cheese and beans dip - Originally we asked the waiter for this, but for some reason he brought us just the cheese. Was he listening to us a customers? or he just didn't care. This was the kicker!! I should of just stayed home because it was just a Velveeta block of cheese microwaved.
        3. Recommendations - No way!! NO NO NO!! Stay away!! Only a good spot for happy hour beers and that's it. Not for menu itself. Not good for first date impressions or any dates at all. If you were looking to just get drunk. This would be the spot.

MONA LISA RESTAURANT, BAYONNE, NEW JERSEY

MONA LISA RESTAURANT
BAYONNE, NJ
07.24.11

Recently, I had my older sister and her fiancee over for the weekend. I got so tired of cooking that I just wanted to order take out. My sister, not quite familiar with the area of bayonne, asked me for a recommendation for a place to order.  Quickly, I grabbed a menu from the refrigerator and told her to try Mona Lisa in Bayonne. I recommended a dish and soup for her. She was surprised as to how hot the food arrived and how tasteful it was. I am looking forward to have them come over soon and to order from Mona Lisa Restaurant again to make a lasting impression.

  1. Service  - Online ordering available at www.bayonnemonalisa.com. 10% discount always available if ordered online. Fast delivery. Food is always hot. I have ordered catering in the past for some parties. Very polite in the phone and will give recommendations if unsure of what to get.
  2. Food -  - Sorrentino and penne pasta//Tortellini in Brodo soup. (These are my favorite dishes in the entire menu). Upon delivery, these dishes are always hot. Bread is warm and soft. Quantity of the pasta dish is large enough to serve two. So, if you are seeking a romantic time at home with your special someone, one pasta dish to order will fill you both. I totally recommend the sorrentino. The prosciutto, although has a reputation for being a salty component, is a perfect combo with the juiciness of the chicken. It is not overwhelming with saltiness. The Tortellini in Brodo, i also recommend. It is a perfect soup to pick if you are the type that can't quite make up your mind on what to order. Great starter soup to get your taste buds going. The broth in the soup is chicken flavor, not salty at all.. smooth going down your stomach. Two thumbs up if you are sick. This will definitely make you feel like mom just sent you soup.
  3. Recommendations - YES!! YES!! AND YES!!. This is the kind of restaurant you want to rely on when trying to impress visitors, whether it's catering or regular delivery for those lazy nights. You will never be disappointed with each order. Take advantage of the online discount as well.
I will be posting more blogs on restaurants as I get to them each week. If anyone has a restaurant in mind that they would like me to try and rate please let me know!! Don't be shy! I am willing to try places in the NJ and NY. If it is out of this area, I will try my best to get there and try it.

RITA'S - HOBOKEN, NJ - JULY 21, 2011

RITA'S ITALIAN ICES
HOBOKEN, NJ
2.02pm

Arriving in Hoboken, Nj, after dropping off my husband to a doctor's appt, temperature that day was in the upper 90s. My daughter and I really needed something to cool us off.

  1. Service - Greeted as soon as you walk in. This sets the tone on how you will be served and whether or not you want to spend your money. Loved it. Fast and friendly service. If you really can't decide on what flavors, ask for recommendations. Rita's employees will gladly recommend for you.
  2. Food - Gelati. Cherry vanilla chocolate. (This is what I tasted that day). It is an icee overload for those who have a sweet tooth, and wish to cool off in hot temperatures. It contains any ice cream of your choice to sit at the bottom of your cup, then topped with an italian ice flavor of your choice. Finally, topped again with more of the ice cream.
  3. Recommended?? - Yes, it is a perfect cooling off food and a great dessert for after lunch.
